Studies reveal that riverbeds in their storage areas are decreasing at an annual rate. In the present chapter, two case studies have been examined to reveal the severity of environmental problems associated with sand extraction from rivers draining the ecologically sensitive area of Western Ghatsan in Peninsular India. 1.
